They...used...to...read!

Assalamu aleikum,

Here come the holidays, the chance to breathe!
A sigh of relief?
A sigh of contemplation?
A dreamy sigh...a yawn...

ahhh.

I'm trying to do something I haven't done in a while: read. for. pleasure. This is awful, because children's books are so much better and easier to wade through, and that's about the point where I stopped serious leasure reading. Which is why one of the books I'm intending to borrow is by Leon Garfield. I read John Diamond as a kid, and reread it recently. It's so good :) (note this has nothing to do with journalist John Diamond). John Diamond is a Dickensy type realistic story, and a darn good yarn at that, requiring no fantastical leaps of faith to keep one turning the pages. Ok, I may be over-gushing. But it's halal : ) So if anyone has any suggestions for good reading, toss 'em my way. I'm thinking of compiling a list of uber-fantastico halal books. :P

On another note: for those with mp3 players, I FINALLY found a site with the whole Quran in mp3, but in SECTIONS (ahzab, quartets). Oh yes, this is a very big deal - all the Qur'aan recitations on the net that I've found so far have only whole suras for download (l don't have an mp3 player, but can appreciate the problems of listening to Suratul Baqarah and having to start from the beginning every time without being able to save the place you stopped at). And you try "googling" something like this. So here it is: www.islam.us/mp3.php Spread the word, I tell you!

You know what book I would recommend to you? Garfield. Whenever you're missing me, just read it and you'll remember me :P

aaah, Garfield. I wish I had a fat, lazy, smart cat.

Come to think of it, some of those adjectives apply to me already.:P

Umm, my sister (sum) says that the only adjective that applies to you is "smart". However, I believe that the other adjectives you mentioned would apply perfectly to none other than myself.

Thank you and good night.

I luff Garfield - subhana Allaah, I thought of it when I read that dude's name - something Garfield - what a name.

I used to like reading the classics, but HATED Dickens - yuck! BORING - I guess it's because I don't have time or patience for that anymore. Fast-paced is the key for me now.
I used to do lots of leisure reading back i highschool, now it's Chaucer and other peculiar selection of American texts from 1880-1960, meh ^_^.

So, chaucer - man - what a man. I would recommend to read his stuff - he is the FIRST ENGLISH 'author' - yes - He is even (dare i say it) BETTER than Shakespeare in many aspects.

OK - one last thing. Where did that come from? OK.
OLL KORRECT! No kidding! Some British or Scottish folk thought it was 'kool' to mispell things - and and so oll (all) korrect (correct) was born! ta da!

Assalamu 'alaiki o olde wo"e"man (also, marriage of heaven and hell - william blake)

Oh, and I'm Sara - not Hajar - but I've often wanted to be a Hajar
