Abu Yusuf and Abu Hanifa - part 1

Assalamu aleikum,

I heard this great story from one of my favourite shuyookh (plural of shaikh; scholar in Islam), Muhammad Al-Areefy (محمد العريفي), on a TV program entitled "استمتع بحياتك" ("Enjoy your life") [heart!] Any mistakes therefore, are mine : ) I'll try to find a reference to it inshaAllah. [edit: this is such an old post!! it was a "draft" this whole time!!! SubhanAllah, I guess I was just too lazy to finish it. To motivate myself to post it, I shall send it in parts...]

-------------------------------------------
When Abu Yusuf was a young boy about the age of 9 or 10, he used to go to the Masjid whenever Abu Hanifa was teaching to listen to him He was a very keen student despite his age, and was eager to learn from the Sheikh. However, he came from a poor family, so his father wasn't pleased about these excursions - he wanted his son to work to help the family instead. His father admonished him and told him that Abu Hanifa was a rich man, but that they did not have such a privelage and that he ought to work for his livelihood. He told him to stop going to the study circles and go to the souq (market) instead so that he could sell and trade. Sadly, Abu Yusuf was forced to qquit his lessons. When Abu Hanifa noticed him missing, he enquired about him, and decided to go see Abu Yusuf's father.

(wallahu a3lam, all mistakes are mine..)
